Glenn McCormick finishes as runner-up in Scottish motocross championship after hat-trick of podiums in Lanarkshire
Glenoe’s Glenn McCormick wrapped up his Scottish Championship campaign as runner-up to Charlie Heyman in the MX2 Championship after the final round at a wet and heavy Drumclog Moto Parc in Lanarkshire.
The Chambers KTM rider opened with second in his class before taking third in race two, having briefly led the MX2 field.

McCormick said: “I led for a lap or two before Charlie passed me. Jimmy Keith then nipped past on the last lap when I made the wrong choice with the backmarkers.”
McCormick saved his best for the final race, taking another third to secure third overall on the day.

“It was probably my best race of the season,” he added. “I passed a lot of 450s and got into second in class.
"Keith passed me around halfway, but I tagged onto him, and there was nothing in it at the line. He’s won a couple of British rounds this year, so he’s not bad company to be racing with.”
Loughbrickland’s Jack Meara overcame a difficult weekend on the Moto-Cycle Yamaha to secure third overall in the MX2 Championship.
Meara said: “I finished eighth in race one despite clutch problems, then a puncture dropped me from fifth to tenth in race two. A bad start and more mechanical problems in race three meant I just made sure I finished and picked up the points.

“Third in the championship in my first full season in the Pro class – I can’t complain.”
Jason Meara was sixth overall in MX1 after finishes of sixth, fifth and sixth across the three races.
“Three races and I crashed five times, so that just about sums up my weekend,” Meara said.
Ollie Holland was the leading Northern Ireland rider in the 125 Youth class, finishing sixth overall, while Omagh’s Lewis Spratt took second in the 250 Youth class to secure third in the championship.
Castlewellan teenager Alfie Herron finished sixth overall in the Experts, while Ballyclare’s Charley Irwin completed a double victory in the Adult Support races aboard the Discount Beds Honda.
Meanwhile, youth riders represented 555 Promotions and Team Ireland at the Nora Motorsport Team Event at the famous Foxhill Moto Park at the weekend.
A 32-strong team made the trip across to compete, producing an impressive performance to finish eighth overall at the end of the meeting.
The team also found success in the individual classes, with the Auto riders securing third place, while the Big Wheel 85 team took an excellent class victory.
Team manager Philip McCullough was delighted with the weekend's performances.
“It was a fantastic weekend, with all 32 riders doing an excellent job,” he said. “We will definitely be back again in 2027 to compete at this event.”
Also at the weekend, 12-year-old John Joe Malone from Annaclone wrapped up the 2026 British Quad Nett Championship at Duns Motocross track in the Scottish Borders.
The St Patrick’s College, Banbridge pupil arrived at the meeting with the championship firmly in his sights and secured the championship in style with victory in Saturday’s opening race.
With the championship already in the bag, Malone continued his impressive form, winning race two before finishing runner-up in race three to round off a memorable championship-winning campaign.
This weekend, the Knock Club hosts the final round of the Irish Youth and Adult Championships at the Saul MX track in Co. Down.
The youth competitors take centre stage on Saturday, before the adult classes provide the action on Sunday.
A quality line-up of British Championship riders is entered for Sunday, including last year’s winner Taylor Hammal, plus Josh Gilbert, Tristan Purdon, Ollie Colmer, Adam Sterry, Bobby Bruce, and Charlie Richmond.
They will be joined by a strong local contingent featuring Glenn McCormick, Jason Meara, Nathan Green, Niall Cregan and Martin Barr, setting the scene for a fantastic day of racing as the championship reaches its conclusion.
Sunday’s racing is scheduled to get underway at 11 am.
