Lee Johnston on track for NW200 after Scarborough crash

The Fermanagh man was reported to have come off his East Coast BMW at Memorial after encountering a braking issue on the S1000RR.

Fortunately, he escaped with only bruising and minor injuries and an update issued on Monday by Lee’s official charity F13K Cancer said: “Lee sustained minor injuries and straining from his crash at the Spring Cup meeting and currently it looks promising that he will be attending the North West 200 in a few weeks.”

The event was overshadowed by a serious accident involving Billy Redmayne after the race had been restarted in the wake of Johnston’s accident.

The 25-year-old Manx rider, from Laxey, was airlifted to Middlesbrough Hospital.

A statement issued by the organisers on Sunday evening said: “Billy Redmayne, the rider involved in the incident during the Bob Smith Spring Cup Race at Oliver’s Mount, has been taken by airmed to Middlesbrough Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

“He is now breathing on his own and his condition is improving. Further information will be released when available.”

The organisers opted to abandon the meeting in North Yorkshire due to a lack of medical cover at the course in the aftermath of the incident.

Bradford’s Dean Harrison was in terrific form winning both Senior races on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki.

Harrison and Daley Mathison also claimed a win apiece in the Supersport races.
