Motorcycling community mourns death of long-serving MCUI stalwart Johnny Atcheson

The motorcycling fraternity in Northern Ireland has been left saddened by the news that well-known and long-serving MCUI (Ulster Centre) member Johnny Atcheson has sadly passed away.

A hard-working and respected member of the sport’s governing body, Mr Atcheson died on Friday morning.

Adrian Craig, Vice Chairman of the MCUI (UC), paid tribute to his former colleague on Facebook, saying: ‘It is with great sadness we have heard that Mr John Atcheson passed away this morning. John was a long time and hard-working member of MCUI UC and a very respected man.

‘He will be sadly missed by all the members of the MCUI UC. We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Maureen his wife and all the family members, our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time’.

Former road racer Ryan Farquhar said it was ‘terrible news,’ adding, ‘sorry to hear John has passed away’.

Anne Forsythe of the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club, organisers of the Tandragee 100, said Mr Atcheson had been devoted to the sport of motorcycling in Northern Ireland.

‘I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Johnny Atcheson, who sadly passed away early this morning,’ she said in a Facebook post.

‘Johnny was a stalwart of our sport who played an instrumental role in improving safety over many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this saddest of times’.
