Neil Robinson Memorial race returns at Kirkistown

The Mid Antrim 150 Club has put together an excellent prize fund for next Saturday's Neil Robinson Memorial Race at Kirkistown in Co Down (July 9).

Being held for the second successive year, the meeting will mark the 30th anniversary of ‘Smutty’ Robinson’s tragic death at Scarborough in 1986.

Trevor Armstrong, who was the chairman of the ‘90’ Motorcycle Club which supported Neil throughout his career, is the driving force behind the resurrection of the Neil Robinson Memorial race, which saw Alistair Kirk taking home the winning trophy last year.

The race was initially run in 1987 and 1988 at Kirkistown, when the winners were motrcycling legends and world champions Joey Dunlop and Carl Fogarty.

A host of Irish Superbike regulars are expected, including Nikki Coates, Ryan Rainey, Gerard Kinghan, Robert English, Mark Glasgow and Cody Nally.

A prize fund of £6,000 has been secured, with £2,650 going towards the feature Neil Robinson Memorial Race.

The winner will pocket a cheque for £1,200 with the first Supersport rider home picking up £300.

All classes are being catered for, including Classic bikes and Sidecars, with the Lowry Burton Challenge Trophy presented to the aggregate winner of the Sidecar races.

Prize money and medals will be presented to the first three in each race.

Admission to the event is £10 with children admitted free.

Practice starts at 9am with racing scheduled to commence at 11.30am.
