Neil '˜Smutty' Robinson's Yamaha on display at Ballymoney Motorcycle Show

The 250cc Yamaha raced by the late Neil '˜Smutty' Robinson in the 250cc British Championship in 1983 is one of the special machines that will be on display this weekend at the annual Ballymoney Motorcycle Show.

Robinson was tragically killed at Scarborough in 1986 weeks after causing a sensation at the Ulster Grand Prix, where he beat Joey Dunlop to win the Formula One race at Dundrod by more than one minute.

From Cullybackey, the 24-year-old had been tipped for a glittering career in the sport until he met his untimely demise almost 30 years ago.

Robinson won the British title in 1983 and the 250cc Yamaha he raced is certain to attract plenty of attention this weekend at the Joey Dunlop Centre, where the display will be complemented by photographs of the popular Ulsterman plus his leathers, helmet and boots.

A machine raced by the late Owen McNally will also be put on show for the very first time.

Organised each year by Davy Louden, a number of riders are set to make special guest appearances over the two days of the show, which runs from 5pm-10pm on Friday and from 10am-5pm this Saturday.

Admission is only £5 for adults and £4 for senior citizens, with children under the age of 12 admitted free.
