NW200: Newcomer 'devastated' after being ruled out of north coast debut following Cookstown 100 crash

One of this year’s standout newcomers at the North West 200 says he is “devastated” after being ruled out of Ireland’s biggest motorcycle race through injury.

Donegal’s Caomhan Canny was involved in a red flag crash at the Cookstown 100 in Co Tyrone last month, sustaining a shoulder injury.

Last year’s Senior Manx Grand Prix winner was gearing up for his debut at the north coast meeting with Coleraine team Scott Racing.

However, Canny won’t make the grid and is now targeting his comeback at the Isle of Man TT, where he is poised to make his debut after progressing through the Manx Grand Prix ranks.

In a social media post, Canny said: “Unfortunately after a spill at cookstown we won’t be participating in the Nw200 this year!

“It’s a huge set back and i’m devastated to be writing this! A shoulder injury is the issue at the moment and i’m hoping we can get this assessed and sorted before the Isle of man TT races in a few weeks time!

“I’d like to apologise to Scott Racing and my sponsors!”
