Ireland’s most prestigious short circuit event was scheduled to take place from October 23-24.

In a statement, the organising Hillsborough Club said the decision to call off the two-day meeting was taken with ‘great regret’ and said the race would return ‘bigger than ever’ in 2021.

The statement said: “Due to the Covid-19 situation there will be no 2020 Sunflower meeting. Can I thank all sponsors, riders, medical, timekeepers, scrutineers, race control, flag personnel, and all marshals. We look forward to 2021 where we will be back bigger than ever, and thank Bishopscourt Circuit.”

The Sunflower meeting is the latest motorcycling event to be called off in 2020.

It is understood the MCUI (UC) Directors are in favour of cancelling all planned motorcycling races in Northern Ireland this year.

On Friday, Ulster Centre secretary David McAllister said a statement was due to be issued on Saturday after a majority of Directors agreed that no racing should take place this year.
