Ten pictures: David Jefferies' red-hot Senior victory and first 125mph lap at the Isle of Man TT in 2000

David Jefferies made up for the disappointment of his retirement from the 2000 Formula One race at the Isle of Man TT by rattling off a treble.

After breaking down in the race, famously won by Ulsterman Joey Dunlop on the Honda SP-1, Jefferies went on to win the 600 Junior race by almost nine seconds from Ballymoney's Adrian Archibald. He then completed a double in atrocious conditions in the Production 1000 race, but it was his victory in the Senior that was the highlight of the Englishman’s week. The race was delayed until the Saturday because of the weather and in brilliant sunshine, Jefferies led all the way in the six-lap race, setting a new outright lap record of 125.69mph – the first-ever 125mph lap at the TT – as he beat team-mate Michael Rutter and Formula One winner Dunlop. It was Jefferies’ second successive hat-trick at the TT and although the event was cancelled due to foot and mouth disease in 2001, he won another three races on his return in 2002 to become the first rider to claim three consecutive trebles. Sadly, Jefferies was killed during practice on the TAS Suzuki at the 2003 TT after crashing on oil at Crosby.
