TT 2026: Retired nurse who provided medical assistance to injured spectators after crash describes 'terrifying' scene - 'I've never seen such a bad accident'

A retired nurse who helped treat spectators injured in a serious accident at the Isle of Man TT on Monday described the incident as “terrifying”.

Muriel Kelly has lived on the island for 40 years in Ramsey said a family were among those caught up in the crash, which happened during Superbike and Superstock practice.

Six spectators and the competitor have been discharged from hospital, with two other people receiving specialist care in the UK.

Speaking to BBC Isle of Man, Kelly recalled the “chaos” in the aftermath of the crash and says she still sees “people on the ground” when she closes her eyes to try and go to sleep.

“We’ve seen people crash their bikes or come off, but I’ve never seen anybody go into a group of spectators like that. It was terrifying really,” she said.

“It was just chaos. I waited for a minute, then I asked the marshal if he needed help.

“It was a major incident. I’ve never seen such a bad accident like that before.

“Every time I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep at night I just kept seeing it all again, all the people on the ground.

“It wasn’t good.”

Kelly praised the response of police and paramedics as “fantastic” and said the incident hasn’t altered her views on the TT, saying it had been a “fluke” accident.

The viewing area at Albert Square in Ramsey has been closed off to spectators.
