The news was confirmed on Thursday morning.

A statement said: “It is with great regret the organisers of the Ulster Grand Prix, the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club, must announce the race will not take place in 2020.

“Despite numerous meetings in recent months with councillors, MLAs, MPs and Ministers and other interested parties, we have been unable to find the necessary financial support to run the meeting this year.

“The unprecedented crisis surrounding the Coronavirus epidemic has made finding a solution at this stage impossible.”

In November, it was revealed that the Dundrod and District Club was in debt estimated to be around £300,000.

The Isle of Man TT has also been cancelled this year due to coronavirus, although for now the North West 200 is ‘postponed’. However, the organisers have not suggested any alternative dates for the event in 2020.

The Ulster Grand Prix announcement comes after Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston revealed he was stepping down from the role after 18 years.
