Daryl Gurney picked up his first Unitbet Premier League point of the season after a draw with Welshman Gerwyn Price in front of his home fans at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena last night.

Gurney stays bottom of the table after week three but 'Superchin' was relieved to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

“I’m happy to get my Premier League campaign off to a start with a point against Gerwyn because he is hard to beat and he’ll be hard to put out of the top four,” said Gurney.

“Gerwyn had all the support, he’s a great player, he doesn’t give up and he has great determination, there was a leg I let him off and a leg where he let me off.

“It was 3-3 and he should have broke me, he had six darts and if he hits that he probably wins but I hang in there and gave myself a chance. I was hoping for a 12-darter in the last leg but the way he kicked off I knew he wasn’t going to miss.”

Two 140’s and a 64 checkout on D16 helped Gurney take the first leg 15 darts.

Superchin had a chance to break in the second leg but missed the bull for a 126 finish, Price took out D10 to level.

Gurney hit his first maximum in leg three and won it in 11 darts. Price took the next leg on tops.

Gurney’s second maximum helped him take leg five and the Northern Irish man missed an opportunity to break in leg six missing D16 for a 110 checkout, Price cleaned up on double 10.

Both players struggled on the out ring in leg seven, Price missed three at tops Gurney missed two at the same target, the Welsh missed one at 10 and two at D5 before Gurney hit D10.

Price hit D10 to level at 4-4.

Gurney missed two at tops in leg nine and Price took out 52 for the first break of the match and edge in front.

Gurney found three ton plus scored in the next leg and took out tops to break straight back and draw level at 5-5.

Superchin piled in a 140 and a 133 before hitting cleaning up 54 to guarantee himself at least a point.

Price was clinical in the last leg finding a maximum and a 140 before hitting D10 for a share of the spoils.

Gurney faces Michael Smith at Dublin’s 3 Arena next Thursday.
