'I'm truly proud' - Coleraine's Hannah Scott helps Great Britain to world silver success

Coleraine’s Olympic champion Hannah Scott has celebrated her second career World Rowing Championships silver as a ‘truly proud’ moment.

Scott was alongside gold-winning Great Britain colleague Lola Anderson from Paris 2024 in the women’s quadruple sculls A final along the Amsterdam water, with USA home third as Netherlands enjoyed a successful defence of the world prize won last year in Shanghai.

It marked another podium achievement for Scott – with Imogen Grant in the crew, plus England-born Finnola Stratton appearing in her first senior World Championships but a champion across the under 23s. Stratton enjoys connections to Northern Ireland via her Cullybackey-born mother Cathy.

“Today, we were trying to channel some aggression that we’ve been wanting to show in this regatta, and it’s been hard through the rounds to get it,” said Scott on the official British Rowing website. “I’m truly proud of that race today. Finals day is always another step up.

"For Finn’s first World Championships, that was pretty incredible. To come away with a silver and have the race we had is really exciting for us, because I think we might be a bit ahead of our trajectory this cycle.

"From where we stand, I’m very happy, and we should have our heads held high.”

Scott previously won world gold at the 2023 championships in Belgrade, with Stratton stepping up from last year’s under 23s title delight.

“I think that's probably the best racing we've done all year,” said Stratton, as reported by BBC Sport NI. “We did everything that we wanted to do and it just felt so good.

“That one was pretty spicy...I mean, you can tell you're among some pretty experienced athletes there. Everybody knows how to race, everyone's got their head in the game.

“I mean, under 23s is pretty fun as well, but that is really tough...under 23s is the playground.”

The World Championships women’s quad sculls also included Ireland’s crew featuring 19-year-old Sophia Young from Belfast.

Switzerland-born Konan Pazzaia represents Ireland as his mother, Sarah, is from Belfast. He teamed up with Margaret Cremen to seal mixed doubles sculls silver.
