Win leaves Daryl Gurney's destiny in his own hands

Daryl Gurney has his Premier League destiny in his own hands going into Judgement Night.

'Superchin' made it two wins out of two matches in Milton Keynes by beating UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall 7-5 last night.

The two points coupled with Rob Cross defeat by Michael Smith moves Gurney of the bottom of the table.

Gurney’s survival could be guaranteed before he takes the stage tonight against world champion Peter Wright.

Cross is a point behind Gurney and the Northern Irishman has a superior leg different of six.

Cross must beat Glen Durrant to have any hope of overhauling Gurney.

Gurney has been pleased with his two night’s work so far at the Marshall Arena.

“I felt when I got to six there I felt the way the game was going it would be a good point, I thought when it came to 6-5 and I had the darts in the last leg if I throw a good one I could possible get two points,” said Gurney.

“It was a really hard game against probably one of my best friends on the tour, I thankfully I got thought the game and get two points.

“Before a dart was thrown this week I thought if I can win all three games I’ll give myself an opportunity and if I go out I go and I’ve don’t the best I could and I’ve give myself that opportunity and I played well.”

Gurney started slowly averaging 75 in the early stages but as he settled into the match he with a 97 average and hit 64% of his doubles.

The first six legs went with throw with Aspinall unable to profit from Gurney’s lacklustre start.

The decisive leg was the seventh Gurney hit two 140’s and a 123 before breaking the Aspinall throw with tops.

The next four legs all went with throw.

Gurney went into the last leg with a 6-5 lead and had three ton plus scores before checking out 82 on tops for a valuable victory.
