The back row’s departure from Ulster at the end of the current campaign was officially announced over the weekend - with the Bulls on Monday describing Coetzee as ‘a phenomenal player’ on the club website.

The 29-year-old, capped 30 times by South Africa, will end a five-season spell at Ulster after signing terms on a three-year deal at the Bulls effective from July 2021.

Jake White, Director of Rugby at the BBCo, said: “Marcell is a phenomenal player and any team in the world would be ecstatic to have a player of his calibre joining its structures.

“He has grown from strength to strength over the years, and is currently playing some of the best rugby of his life.

“He’s excited about being back in South Africa, and making Loftus his home.”

Ulster head coach Dan McFarland confirmed to media after Sunday’s PRO14 win over Connacht he expects Coetzee to continue to play for the province over the rest of the season.
