Glasgow maintained their Pro12 play-off push with a 38-16 thrashing of bottom team Benetton Treviso at the Stadio di Monigo.

Treviso led by two points at the interval but Glasgow hit back decisively, with four second-half tries to stay in contention for a top-four finish.

Altogether the visitors ran in six tries through Jonny Gray, Peter Horne, Simone Favore, playing against his old club, Stuart Hogg plus substitutes Grayson Hart and James Malcolm while Finn Russell kicked four conversions.

Angelo Esposito scored Treviso’s only try and Jayden Hayward landed three penalties for the beleaguered hosts.

Scotland second row Gray opened the scoring in the 12th minute, bursting for the line to reward Glasgow pressure.

Hayward slotted two kicks to reduce the deficit to a point but Glasgow’s inside centre Horne touched down on 29 minutes after a superb break from Henry Pyrgos.

Before half-time Italy wing Esposito crossed out wide. Hayward converted and added a penalty to put Treviso up 16-14 at the break.

However Glasgow came back emphatically, initially when Italy flanker Favaro dived over on 42 minutes. Twelve minutes later he was substituted and received a rousing ovation from the home and away fans.

Scotland full-back Hogg, recently named Six Nations player of the tournament, danced down the right flank to score in the 59th minute, but Russell hit the upright with his conversion attempt.

Eight minutes later Hart sneaked over for Glasgow’s fifth try, which referee Ben Whitehouse confirmed via the television match official.

The final score of the game came with seven minutes to go, Malcolm diving over in the corner to complete the rout.
