Stewart Moore feels there is still plenty to play for

Ulster may have nothing left to play for in this season’s Pro14 but for Stewart Moore the Dragons and Zebre games are a chance to re-establish himself in the starting line up.

The centre started the first eight games of the season scoring three tries but has only had two starts since the end of November, the latest coming against the Dragons last Saturday night when he bagged two tries.

“It was class, the Principality Stadium is hard to beat, I was told to enjoy it and I certainly did,” said Moore.

“It was good fun and it is nice to be back to winning ways.

“As much as they are dead rubbers we are looking to finish each game with a win.

“We are still challenging ourselves and as you saw at the weekend we have a mixture of young guys coming through as well as the older ones, so we are working with different combinations.

“We are not going out with the intent to lose, we are there to win at the end of the day and we might as well use these games to prep for Harlequins because it is just around the corner.

“It was kind of a different challenge not being selected the way I was at the start of the season but obviously 12 are big shoes to fill and with Stu coming back from camp.

“I have just bided my time again and thankfully got the call again at the weekend along side him.”

Moore used his time away from the team to study his game.

“When I was playing week in and week out, I got myself into a good routine learning those things from the previous week bringing them in and learning from those things,” he said.

“The break kind of stopped that and I hit the rest button.

“I carry the book everywhere and it is kind of like a joke because it is like a wee pencil case.

“I have it all written in there and if I ever need to go back to it I can do that.

“I do preview and review and things like that, then anything that is spoken about in the meetings, I have that all down then would go through it the week I’m playing and look at where I can learn better and improve on the field.”

With Stuart McCloskey released from Ireland camp Moore moved to outside centre for the game with the Dragons and he enjoyed playing with the Ireland midfielder.

“Its class, I played with him in pre-season a couple of years ago when I was younger and probably a bit more quiet, just because I have been training with him the last three years I can soak stuff up from him for example that offload I could tell he was going for it so I was able to run that line,” he said

“As much as he is the Bangor Bulldozer he can pass as well and it is nice to be outside him.

“It was a challenge especially as the 13 is a bit tricky but I wanted to challenge myself but with the combinations it is nice to see we can move about as easy as that.

“A lot of people say Stu is just a ball carrier but I learn a lot of things of him running lines, off the ball you could see at the weekend he was the busiest man on the pitch and it is just nice to watch him not necessarily chatting to him.”
