Visitors day at CAFRE Enniskillen Campus

Parents and guardians of the Level 3 Year 1 Extended Diploma in Horse Management students were invited to Enniskillen Campus for an update on the progression of students.

Students took on the planning and running of the event. David Collins, from Lisburn, gave a presentation outlining the range of modules that the students are covering in their course.

Kendal Smith, Newtownards, give an equitation demonstration which involved a number of students carrying out pole work display to music. They also watched Zoe McMullan, Coleraine, and Shane O’Callaghan, Keady, working two of the racehorses on the gallops.

Visitors proceeded to the simulator room, where Sophie Galloway, Newtownabbey, demonstrated the equitation simulator and Elisha McAteer, Ballymoney, gave the racing simulator a workout.

The painted horse was next, where Sarah McDowell, Dundrod, and Ruby Nugent, Kilkeel, concentrated on the anatomy of the horse and assisted Enniskillen Campus lecturer, Laura Smith, in painting the skeleton onto a horse in the Equitation Yard.

The event ended with Natasha Carlisle, Ballynahinch, in the Racing Unit to see the remainder of the students at work; grooming, tacking up, bandaging and plaiting the horses.

There was also an opportunity for an update on each student with their year Manager, Shelley Stuart and their Programme Manager, Sharon McLaren.
