Defending champion Jordan Spieth believes winning at Oakmont means “conquering the hardest test in all of golf,” while six-time runner-up Phil Mickelson simply labelled the course “the hardest we’ve ever played”.

However, Day believes a positive mental attitude is essential for the year’s second major championship.

As we approach the second major of the year, Standard Life Investments, Worldwide Partner of The Ryder Cup, have produced a film that dips into the mental side of golf.

It features pre-eminent golf psychologist Bob Rotella as well as 2016 Ryder Cup Captains Darren Clarke and Davis Love III talking about how ‘getting in the zone’ allows a golfer to deliver on their potential.

It is the second in the ‘World Class as Standard’ campaign, which looks at what it takes to deliver a world class performance, exploring both the importance and the impact of analysis, performance and potential on ultimate sporting success.
