Whip and Collar Club ready for Shane's Castle event

The members of the Whip and Collar Driving Club are getting very excited at the prospect of their first ever outdoor show to be held on Saturday, August 6, on the lawns of Shane's Castle, Antrim.

This show is a follow on from their flagship show which was held at Portmore Equestrian Centre on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2.

When the opportunity arose to join members of the Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association at the Co Antrim venue, it was met with huge excitement and a decision was taken by the members of the Whip and Collar Driving Club to wholeheartedly accept the offer.

The club would like to sincerely thank all those who made this possible, again a big thank you to Mr Jonathan Carnduff who on hearing the news of the invite to the event kindly sponsored the show.

The club is indebted to Jonathan for this very kind gesture, the show itself will have In Hand classes, also driving classes that will include Novice, Private Drive, Hackney, Trade, Exercise Vehicles, Junior Whip and Concours D’Elegance. There is something to suit all tastes.

The amount of interest already shown in this show is gaining momentum with some spectators having booked flights from the mainland to come and join in what will be a great days showing.

The responsibility of judging the show has been left in the capable hands of Mr Norman Brown, Boardmills, Lisburn and Mr Joseph Quigg, Claudy. Mr Brown has a vast knowledge of all things related to the driving world having owned, bred and shown some of the finest turnouts we have been privileged to witness over recent years. Mr Brown also presided over and judged many of the top shows here in the province and on the mainland, along with having on his C.V. The Devon Horse Show in America which is the largest horse show in America.

The second judge on the day is Mr Joseph Quigg who needs no introduction in the showing world, having shown hackneys to the highest level both at home and on the mainland. Joe was the Champion Winner at the Horse of the Year Show, Wembley on three executive years with his black stallion Ingefield Black Prince. He also went on to win the double at Wembley with both his horse and pony. Joe not only has experience of hackneys but also in showed in trade and private drive for a period of time which some may not be aware. So both the judges on the day come with an impeccable amount of experience knowing what to look out for in the show ring come Saturday.

The club is immensely privileged to have these two gentlemen with limitless and extensive knowledge present on the day.

It should also be mentioned that on the day of the show the Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association are holding a large FEI event which as always will be exciting and interesting to watch and enjoy.

To crown the day off there is a night of live music, pig on the spit, good food and what promises to be a good night’s craic. So don’t miss this glorious opportunity to join organisers for a day and night of fun and laughter.

Entries will be taken on the show day.
