Young talent will look to impress at Imola circuit

The Irish owned endurance racing team Murphy Prototypes will be showcasing young talent once again when it contests round two of the European Le Mans Series at the legendary Italian circuit of Imola, on Sunday.

Patrick McClughan, the 20-year old from Newtownabbey started his motorsport career in the Ginetta Junior Championship and he joins Murphy Prototype.

In 2015, he contested the Radical Sprint Championship and scored an impressive 12 wins and multiple fastest laps during the season’s 21 races.

He also won the coveted Sunoco Challenge award last year that comprised a fully funded drive at Daytona in January.

On his debut in a Subaru WRC, Manus Kelly took a well deserved victory in the Seven Oaks Hotel Carlow Rally, the third round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.  

He finished 9.9 seconds ahead of the Ford Fiesta WRC of Roy White to extend his lead in the Triton series. 

Tommy Doyle, another Subaru WRC debutant was 21.8 seconds further behind in third.

Championship contender and winner of the last round in Kerry, Declan Boyle never made it to the first stage due to a sensor problem in the transmission system of his Ford Fiesta WRC. 

The Group N category was won by Aidan Wray driving a Mitsubishi) from Neil Tohill in a similar car and Paul Barrett (Subaru).

Meanwhile Noel Robinson scored two wins and two second places at Bishopscourt, the Portadown driver was competing in the BOSS Ireland series with his Formula Renault car and in Formula Ford 1600 with his Van Diemen.
