Belfast teacher in prize shortlist
Peter Ferris, a 49-year-old drama teacher currently at Mercy College, Belfast, has been included in the top 50 shortlist for next year's Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize.
Should he win he’ll net an educational prize of one million US dollars, the equivalent of £790,000.
Mr Ferris lists Louise Redknapp, Russell Brand, Martine McCutcheon, Claire Sweeney and Lisa Snowdon as former alumni.
