USPCA gets into gear for charity cycle

Northern Ireland animal charity, Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (USPCA) has announced the launch of its first ever charity cycle event, ‘Pedal for Paws’.

Taking place Saturday October 3, the event will challenge fundraisers to take part in a gruelling yet scenic 20 mile journey from Newry to Scarva and back, following the canal towpath.

Due to current restrictions, the USPCA has added a virtual twist to this year’s event, where participants are welcomed to take part in the challenge from their own local cycling path.

The event offers a great opportunity to get into gear with your family and friends, create your own route, and take in the beautiful scenery found throughout Northern Ireland, all whilst supporting a great cause.

Colleen Tinnelly, USPCA Development Manager said, “Pedal for Paws is set to be a fantastic event and we really can’t thank our fundraisers enough for their contributions. Their support goes such a long way in helping us provide a range of services for animals across Northern Ireland.

“We are always overwhelmed by the support we receive from the local community and we can’t wait to get them involved in the cycle, either on the Newry canal towpath, or virtually from their own preferred location. During this very hard time we feel that this is a great opportunity for the public to embrace the outdoors, set themselves a challenge, and help out a charity while doing so!”

The event’s registration fee is £10 with a suggested sponsorship of £40. For more information visit www.uspca.co.uk/charity-cycle
