Belfast punk band reunite after 45 years to play charity gig in Holywood
Pig Awful, original Belfast punk band from 1980s, are to perform a comeback gig for charity. All five lads from Belfast who met and formed a band in the halcyon days off the city’s punk rock scene will be getting back together after a 45 year gap. To say that the instruments, and memory, will need a bit of dusting off, is an understatement. In the meantime the band have had successful careers in senior roles at the BBC, Microsoft, Google as well as one being a Professor of Oral Microbiology!

After years of watching contemporaries the Outcasts, the Defects, Rudi and Protex etc, and playing live gigs themselves in city centre music venues, church halls and youth clubs, each of the band members left the province to pursue university, careers and adventure. Four if the five still live away – London, St Albans, Edinburgh and Louisville – so it’s a real homecoming. The gig is already sold out with many friends from ‘the old days’ having signed up to attend. The gig is at Holywood Yacht Club on Halloween night, 31st October. Local music legend STUART BAILIE is DJing and MCing the night. Over £2,000 has been raised already (L'arche Belfast: Pig Awful Reunion Gig) and the band are hoping for more donations and will also be selling merchandise on the night of the gig with all money going directly to the charity. It would be amazing to get some PR to drive donations to the charity.
