January fitness challenge helps Belfast members stay on track
A Belfast health club is urging members to keep their fitness routines on track this January with a new challenge aimed at maintaining motivation through the latter part of the month.
The initiative is being hosted at Bannatyne Health Club, based at Mertoun Hall on Belfast Road, and forms part of a UK-wide challenge taking place across 67 clubs.

Running from 19 to 30 January, the Make Your MOVE’s challenge sees clubs and their members compete to generate the highest number of Technogym MOVE’s, a universal measure of physical activity produced through cardio workouts carried out in club.
Members simply log into cardio equipment during each session, with every MOVE earned contributing towards their club’s total. The club with the highest number of MOVE’s at the end of the challenge will be crowned the winner, receiving a new trophy and recognition as the group’s first challenge champions of 2026.
Clare Mackie, Fitness Coordinator at the Bannatyne Group, said the challenge was designed to support members who are working hard to maintain consistency.
“By the third or fourth week of January, motivation can dip,” she said. “This challenge is about helping people stay engaged, recognising that every workout they do counts, no matter their fitness level.”
Open to members and staff alike, the challenge allows participants to join at any point, with MOVE’s calculated based on effort and intensity rather than experience.
“The friendly competition between clubs gives people an extra reason to keep going,” Clare added. “It’s a simple way to build confidence, consistency and momentum.”
