With competitions across athletics, aquatics, basketball, football, golf, and more, the Games are set to be Ireland’s largest inclusive sporting event of the year. More than 6,000 fans are expected at the Opening Ceremony on 18 June, kicking off a festival of ability, inclusion, and community.

In addition to competition, the Games will feature Young Athletes and Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) festivals, Health Screening, and a variety of events ensuring every participant—regardless of ability—has the chance to shine.

Karen Coventry, CEO of Special Olympics, expressed her excitement for the upcoming Games and praised the Ulster delegation:

“Team Ulster has shown tremendous commitment and heart, earning their place at the Summer Games. They’ll now compete proudly against regions from across Ireland in what promises to be an exciting and truly inclusive celebration of sport. We are incredibly proud of them and know they will inspire us all”

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Tracy Kelly, also shared her pride in the athletes representing the region: I was delighted to meet with these amazing athletes today and congratulate them on being chosen to represent Ulster at the Ireland Summer Games next year. It’s a huge achievement and reflects their hard work and skill in their chosen sports.”

“Sporting achievement is something to celebrate, especially as we move forward with Belfast as a European City of Sport for 2026. Sport and physical activity are priorities for Belfast City Council alongside accessibility and inclusion.

“We want everyone to have the opportunity to fulfil their full potential. These inspirational athletes have overcome personal challenges and transformed their lives through sport. I look forward to cheering them on next summer as they compete at the games.”
