The event showcased the strong spirit of NI in full force with Asda colleagues travelling from stores across the region – including Bangor, Kilkeel, Downpatrick, Antrim, Larne, Coleraine and Westwood to support the Dundonald team and reinforce the retailer’s commitment to working together to make a difference in local communities.

Four G, a Dundonald-based day opportunities service for young adults with severe learning difficulties, played a central role in the initiative, with those they support taking part alongside Asda colleagues, local schools and community groups.

Pupils and staff from Dundonald High School, Brooklands Primary School, Dundonald Primary School, Longstone School, and Tor Bank School as well as Castlereagh Councillor Sharon Skillen and Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council Mayor Alderman Amanda Grehan joined to support the clean-up.

Adding to the community spirit were Michelle Hall from Ballybeen Improvement Group and members of a much-loved over-55s group based in Dundonald, affectionately known as “the auld dolls”, who also rolled up their sleeves to take part in the litter pick.

In total, volunteers collected an incredible 54 bags of rubbish from the surrounding area, helping to create a cleaner, safer environment for residents and visitors alike.

The litter pick came as part of the retailer’s UK-wide campaign – “Love where you live” – reflecting Asda’s wider commitment to community action, inclusion and environmental responsibility, while offering a valuable opportunity for young people supported by Four G and local schools to take part in a meaningful activity that promotes pride in their local area.

Johnny Walker from Four G said:

“It was fantastic to see so many people from across the community – and across NI – get involved and work side by side. For the young people we support, it’s a really meaningful opportunity to be part o something visible and positive in their local area. We’re always proud to partner with Asda Dundonald on initiatives like this.”

Sharon Wilson, Community Champion at Asda Dundonald, added:

“The turnout was incredible and the atmosphere was brilliant. It really showed what can be achieved when the community comes together. We’re absolutely delighted with how it all went and so grateful to everyone who took part. We can’t thank Johnny and the team at Four G enough for the fantastic work they do and for helping us bring this event to life.”
