Put Your Wellies on and Go! Farms Across Northern Ireland Open Their Gates This Weekend
Put On Your Wellies and Go! Farms Across Northern Ireland Open Their Gates This Weekend.

Families across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to make the most of a unique opportunity this weekend as Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend returns on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June.
Following a special Schools' Day on Friday, working farms across the province will throw open their gates to the public, offering visitors a rare chance to step behind the farm gate, meet local farmers and discover the journey from farm to fork.
Whether you're from a farming background or have never set foot on a farm before, Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend provides a unique insight into how Northern Ireland's food is produced and the work that goes on every day to care for animals, grow crops and manage the countryside.
Host farmers have spent months preparing for the weekend, organising activities, demonstrations and experiences that showcase modern farming and offer a memorable day out for visitors of all ages.
Each participating farm offers something different. Visitors can enjoy everything from sheep shearing and sheepdog demonstrations to tractor and trailer rides, opportunities to handle animals, machinery displays and children's activities. Many farms will also welcome local food producers, artisans and crafters, giving visitors the opportunity to sample and purchase local produce and handmade goods.
John McLenaghan, President of the Ulster Farmers' Union, said:
"Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for people to experience life on a real working farm and meet the families behind Northern Ireland's food industry. We would encourage everyone to put on their wellies and go – it's a great day out for all ages."
As we all know, in Northern Ireland it's always wise to prepare for four seasons in one day. Thankfully, Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend will go ahead rain or shine. Visitors are encouraged to pack their wellies, waterproofs and sun cream and enjoy a memorable day discovering life behind the farm gate.
As opening days, times and activities vary across participating farms, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting the website before travelling.

Schools' Day takes place on Friday, with participating farms opening to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
For the safety of animals and visitors, dogs are not permitted on farms, with the exception of assistance dogs.
