WRFC Announces the Launch of the Wellington Rec Girls Academy and May Open Days
LARNE, NORTHERN IRELAND — Wellington Recreational Football Club Women is continuing its rapid rise on and off the pitch with the official launch of the Wellington Rec Girls Academy, alongside the announcement of upcoming Open Days designed to welcome the next generation of players into the club’s expanding pathway.

The initiative comes at a moment of growing momentum for the club, following the recent confirmation that the senior women’s side will travel to Latvia later this autumn for a high-profile international fixture against FK Cēsis – Jules Vernes Women. The overseas match marks a significant step in the club’s international development and reflects a broader commitment to building opportunities for players at every level of the game.
Building a Complete Pathway

The newly launched academy is a cornerstone of Wellington Rec’s long-term vision to create a fully integrated women’s and girls’ football structure. Club leadership has emphasized that the academy will serve as a direct pipeline into the senior team, offering young players access to high-quality coaching and a clearly defined progression route.
The upcoming Open Days will give players and families a first-hand look at that environment.
Sunday, May 24 | 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Friday, May 29 | 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Brookvale Park, Larne
Attendees will have the opportunity to train within the academy setting, meet senior coaching staff, and speak directly with the Head of Academy about the program’s long-term vision, including player development, competitive opportunities, and potential pathways into elite-level football.

Momentum from the International Stage
The timing of the academy launch is no coincidence. With the senior squad preparing for its upcoming international trip to Latvia, interest in the club has surged locally and abroad.
The match in Cēsis is expected to be part of a broader international collaboration, reinforcing ties between Northern Irish and Baltic women’s football while showcasing emerging talent on a larger stage. For younger players considering joining the academy, the message is clear: the pathway now extends beyond domestic competition.
A Club on the Rise
The combination of international competition and grassroots investment signals a defining moment for Wellington Rec. By linking academy development with global exposure, the club is positioning itself as a leader in the growth of women’s football in Northern Ireland.
Club officials say the Open Days are just the beginning, with further announcements expected in the coming months as the academy structure expands.
Registration for the first Open Day on May 24 is now open, with additional details for the second session to be released following the initial event.
For aspiring players and families, the opportunity is immediate—and the trajectory is increasingly international.
