Belfast ‘Hot Saucerer’ behind Snow Patrol’s famous spicy sauces serves up two fiery Mexican creations

The Rock A Doodle Do founder, who created award-winning sauces with Snow Patrol, has teamed up with Belfast’s La Taqueria on two fiery new Mexican-inspired flavours

Dave Kernaghan, sometimes known as the ‘hot saucerer’ behind Rock A Doodle Do – Belfast Hot Sauce company, has created two fiery sauces with a distinctive Mexican flavour.

Rock fan Dave, who worked with Snow Patrol, one of the world’s biggest bands, on a range of award-winning and hugely successful spicy condiments, has just launched two fiery Mexican sauces - a Mango Habanero Chilli and a Chipotle Avocado Leaf for BBQs.

The new sauces were launched during the successful Fleadh at St George’s Food Market in Belfast and are a collaboration with the team at La Taqueria authentic Mexican restaurant in the city. He’s also collaborated in the past with Echlinville Distillery in Kircubbin on a range of Dunville’s Irish Whiskey hot sauces.

The latest collaboration stretches back several years to when Dave met La Taqueria joint owner Andy Rea, a respected chef, and head chef Stephen Dowie to discuss original Mexican flavours for dishes and sauces.

Andy has vast experience of hospitality in the city from his Mourne Sea Food and Home restaurants. He’s also partnered in La Taqueria by Snow Patrol stars Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly, who both worked with Dave Kernaghan on the successful hot sauces for the band’s international gigs.

“Andy was impressed by my Great Taste winning white sesame and nori BBQ sauce. We decided that I should create innovative Mexican sauces for the restaurant and other outlets,” Dave remembers.

The small business is a successful extension of Dave’s passion for spicy sauces he’s been making for almost 30 years. He took the plunge in 2015 to launch the Rock A Doodle Do range based on his love of rock music. In addition to selling through contacts and on-line, he operates a stall at St George’s Market every Saturday.
