Shock at level of fly tipping in Craigantlet hills

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne has expressed his concern at a large amount of fly tipping in a rural area of the scenic Craigantlet Hills in Holywood.

The MLA has said he is ‘shocked and alarmed’ at the extensive amount of unauthorised dumping in a field containing grazing cattle.

He added: “This is a very scenic part of the Craigantlet Hills along the Whinney Hill which I understand may have been carried out in the early hours of the morning. It is also of concern as there is currently cattle grazing in this particular field.

“This is alarming and I have informed Ards and North Down Borough Council who are investigating the matter and trying to find a source of the material. Obviously this sort of activity is uncharacteristic of the local rural countryside and local people are understandably angry at this taking place in this rural idyllic location.

“The Craigantlet Hills area of Holywood has always been sensitive to development and work continues with Council to get this resolved,” added Mr Dunne.
