South Derry suckler saunter planned

Suckler herd owners keen to discuss cost effective ways to improve livestock performance are invited to an AgriSearch farm walk from 1pm on Wednesday, March 23.

Hosts, father and son, Kenneth and David McKinstry run a typical lowland suckler farm at 83, Ballyneil Rd, Magherafelt, Co Londonderry BT45 7TE.

The farm carries about 60 suckler cows split between autumn and spring calving with stock sold as stores or finished for beef.

The following day fellow vet Michael Griffith, 71, Old Belfast Road, Saintfield, Co Down BT24 7EY hosts a similar event also starting at 1pm and lasting two hours. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday March 22, another AgriSearch suckler beef farm walk will be hosted from 1pm by Stephen Maguire, Congo, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh BT94 4PN.
