DUP Councillor sends best wishes to solicitor who represented defendant in dad’s murder trial

A DUP Councillor has sent his best wishes to solicitor Niall Murphy who is fighting coronavirus in intensive care.

In a Tweet Kyle Black said: “Niall’s firm represented a defendant in my dad’s murder case.

“Our views also fundamentally differ.

“However this is irrelevant when it comes to someone’s health.

“It’s awful to see anyone suffer with this terrible virus.

Kyle’s father Prison Officer David Black was killed on November 1, 2012, by the New IRA.

Mr Black had been driving to work in Maghaberry Prison when he was shot around 7.30am as his car was on the motorway between Portadown and Lurgan.

It was reported that a car with Dublin registration plates drove up beside him and fired shots at him, and he veered into a ditch.

Kyle Black is now a DUP Councillor for Mid Ulster District Council.
