‘Amazing’ success as unique market garden delivers organic veg to homes
Many families here are increasingly sourcing organic local fruit and freshly harvested vegetables from a unique urban market garden on the Co Down coast.
Influenced by calls from UK bodies such as the Food Foundation UK and FoodNI, the local marketing body, to eat more ‘greens’ for health benefits, they have been lining up for organic produce grown at Helen’s Bay Organic Garden, which is located near the North Down village of Helen’s Bay.
The small farming business, which operates a delivery system and also operates a farm shop of local produce, says it enjoyed an “amazing” Christmas period from seeking the best home-grown vegetables to accompany meals during the festivities.
The fresh produce is also now available for delivery and purchase across Northern Ireland from collaborations in Lisburn and Omagh.

From its coastal farm beside the Belfast Lough in Helen’s Bay, the market garden grows and harvests sustainably a wide range of seasonal vegetables, herbs, and salads that are certified organic and grown without chemicals.
