A Belfast man is to stand trial accused of involvement in rioting in the city, a judge has ordered.

Jonathan Carmichael is charged in connection with street disorder that broke out on July 13 last year.

The 20-year-old, of Black Mountain Grove, appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court to face a count of riotous assembly.

During a preliminary enquiry hearing his lawyer did not oppose prosecution submissions that he has a case to answer.

Carmichael declined to give evidence or call witnesses at this stage in proceedings.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall then granted a prosecution application to have him returned for trial at Belfast Crown Court.

She released the accused on continuing bail to attend for arraignment on a date to be fixed.
