He is alleged to have had a golf club as an offensive weapon in a public place – Glenariff Road in Portrush – “without lawful authority or reasonable excuse”.

The defendant is also accused of stealing alcohol and “other items” from Lidl in Portrush on May 25 this year.

He appeared at Antrim Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ballymena today, via video link from a police station.

A defence barrister said no application was being made for bail as there were issues regarding getting a suitable address.

The defendant was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to Coleraine Magistrates' Court on August 3, with the defence lawyer saying a bail application may be made then.
