DUP MP slams ‘paint brush politician’ who wrote ‘Traitors’ on office ‘ignorant’

The word “traitors” was sprayed across the shutters of the East Antrim MP’s constituency office on Main Street in Larne.

The move has been condemned by Alliance Party Councillor Danny Donnelly who said: “I’m very sorry to see DUP MP Sammy Wilson’s office being vandalised in this manner.

“We may not always agree but this is no way to treat a democratically elected public representative.”

This is the latest political party office to be daubed with graffiti in recent weeks.

But Mr Wilson has called for the person who wrote the message on his office to “take a proper interest an actually find out where people stand on these issues”.

“I think the last person in the world who they could describe as a traitor on this issue is me,” Mr Wilson said.

“And the last party in the world who should be called this is the DUP.

“They are either ignorant or they are being malicious.

“Our record and my record in particular is for angering the remainers more than any other MP in NI because of my stance on Brexit and on the Protocol.

“It is only our impact and campaigning on the Protocol which means the government is going to do something about it.”

Mr Wilson added: “It is a bit ironic that these paint brush politicians should choose this week to call us traitors when the Agriculture Minister Gordon Lyons was the very man who used his position to stop any officer being recruited and to stop customs being built.

“Gordon Lyons has done more with his brain then these idiots have done with their paint brush.

“If you are so interested in being involved in politics and political debate in so far as you are going to get up in the middle of the night with a paint brush, just sit in front of the TV at 6pm and watch the news and keep on top of what is happening.”
