Five arrested after £1m cocaine seizure

Five men have been arrested after cocaine worth more than £1m was seized in police raids.

In addition to 14kg of the class A drug, which the PSNI stated has a street value of around £1.12m, the swoops also uncovered herbal cannabis worth approximately £15,000.

The raids, described by a police spokeswoman as “a proactive operation into drugs criminality”, took place in the greater Belfast area yesterday and today.

Men aged 26, 27, 33, 34 and 59 were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of class A and B controlled drugs with intent to supply.

As of Tuesday evening, all five of the men were still in custody.

A PSNI officer encouraged people to report drug dealing within their communities so the force can get criminals off the streets.

Stated Detective Inspector Miskelly: “Families across Belfast do not want to see the lives of their young people and loved ones blighted by drugs. We know that drugs bring harm and control into communities, and only benefit those lining their pockets at the expense of others and the wider community.

“Anyone tempted to become involved in illegal drugs should be under no illusion – we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone with any information about suspected drug dealing in their area to call the non-emergency number 101.”
