Homes evacuated after suspicious object discovered at NI train station

A number of homes have been evacuated as the PSNI are attending a suspicious object at Finaghy train station, Finaghy Road North.

The PSNI said a number of homes have been evacuated.

Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area.

PSNI and ATO have attended the scene.

It is understood a robot bomb disposal unit has been deployed in the area, with Translink confirming the train line is currently closed between Great Victoria Street and Lisburn as a result of the incident.

They said any valid tickets for trains can be used on bus services instead.

Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey said that a security alert at Finaghy Train station in South Belfast has brought disruption to the lives of local people and businesses in the area.

The South Belfast MLA said: “Reports of a security alert at Finaghy Road North at a busy train station, outside of people’s homes and businesses is disgraceful.
