Larne man sentenced after throwing bed over a wall and causing over £1,000-worth of damage

A Larne man who was "off his head" caused over £1,000 worth of damage to two vehicles by throwing items including a bed, headboard, pots and a metal chair over a wall, a court was told.

Peter Wright, whose age was listed as unknown, with an address at Agnew Street in Larne, pleaded guilty to two charges of causing criminal damage on May 30 last year.

One car cost £670 to repair and the other £507.

Ballymena Magistrates' Court was told the defendant was throwing items over a garden wall.

The two vehicles were parked behind the wall.

The court was told that when challenged the defendant "justified his actions by complaining that his landlord does not provide enough room to store his rubbish".

A defence barrister said the defendant said he was "off his head" at the time is "disgusted by his own behaviour".

He has been engaging with Community Addictions and Community Mental Health since and "seems to be getting the help he needs".

The defendant was given a five-month prison term, suspended for two years.

As the defendant is on benefits, district judge Nigel Broderick said he did not have the means to pay the full amount of compensation and ordered him to pay £200 in total.
