Man arrested over woman’s suspicious death in Newry

Police in Co Down have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the death of a woman found in her home.

The woman’s body was discovered by officers in Drumalane Park, Newry, on Sunday morning.

Police said officers were treating the woman’s death as “suspicious at this time”.

A post-mortem examination is to be conducted to establish the cause of her death.

Newry and Armagh Alliance representative Jackie Coade has expressed her shock and sadness following the discovery of the woman’s body.

Ms Coade said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of a young woman in the Drumalane area of Newry. We await further confirmation from the PSNI on the incident but I have been informed a man has been arrested by police.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family at this time. If anyone has any information please contact the PSNI.”

Police said: “The investigation is at an early stage and police are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

“There are no further details at this time.”
