The MP for Upper Bann has appealed for public support for the police murder investigations after the death of a man following an altercation in Portadown.

“Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service,” they added. “Sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Two men aged in their 50s have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They are currently in police custody."

Writing on social media, Police in Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon moved to reassure the local community.

They said the murder enquiry was launched following the death of a man inside the property.

"We share your shock and sadness but would like to reassure you that two suspects were arrested at the scene and remain in police custody today, and our Major Investigation Team detectives are now carrying out a full investigation," they said.

"You will see an increased police presence in the area today and over the weekend as the investigation progresses."

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart said had received a briefing from the PSNI about the situation.

"This is certainly not news that we wanted to hear today,” she told the News Letter. “Clearly our thoughts are very much with the family of the deceased.

"It's important that we give the police time and space to investigate. I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward to the PSNI.

"Investigations are at an early stage, however I don't believe the situation presents any wider threats to the community at this time."

The News Letter asked the PSNI whether the incident may have been paramilitary or domestic in nature and to confirm the nationalities of the victim and suspects.

However police said they are not releasing any further information at this time.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information which could assist the investigation, or who might have relevant dashcam or doorbell footage to contact them on tel 101 quoting ref number 1809 26/03/26.
