PSNI stop a dozen people riding e-scooters on the street in the space of two hours - seized scooters now set to be destroyed
The PSNI is sending a number of e-scooters to be destroyed after seizing them today.
Officers in Lisburn said they stopped a dozen people riding the vehicles in the space of two hours this afternoon.

“Scooters were seized and a number of reports to the PPS will follow,” said police.
"The scooters seized will be sent to be destroyed.”
It did not say how many of the dozen they stopped were seized.
In a Facebook post, the PSNI added: “E-scooters, scramblers, go-peds, buzz boards, quads and mini-motos do not generally comply with construction and use legislation and vehicle standards so are therefore, restricted to off- road use only."
If used on the road, riders need a driving licence, third party insurance, must have registered the vehicle and have a number plate fitted, and have a Vehicle Excise Licence.
They must also have “obligatory lamps, reflectors and rear markings fitted,” and “in some cases” must wear a helmet.
In Enniskillen yesterday, the PSNI conducted similar patrols.
A male riding an e-scooter on the pavement of Loughshore Road was cautioned for riding without insurance or a licence, and was reported to the PPS.
Police said it was the third time he had been spoken to about using an e-scooter.
“We have more work to do to educate about the illegal use of these vehicles, and we continue to prosecute those driving these vehicles illegally – as well as seizing them,” said the Fermanagh and Omagh PSNI Facebook page.
"These vehicles are not toys and when driven recklessly, their use in public spaces poses a risk to the safety of both riders and the public, and someone could be seriously hurt as a result of their inappropriate use.”
