Suspicious object sparks security alert in Cookstown

Police say they are currently in attendance at a security alert on Lissan Road, Cookstown, following the discovery of a suspicious object.

It is understood the object was discovered at a property.

Lissan Road is closed and diversions are in place and will be for sometime. Please follow the direction of police at the scene.

DUP MLA Keith Buchanan described the incident as concerning and disruptive for local people.

"I would urge people to avoid the area until this matter is dealt with by the authorities," he said.

Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson expressed the hope the alert would not lead to people being evacuated from their homes.
