Firefighters now battling wildfire in Co Fermanagh as they advise residents to shut windows

Having extinguished wildfires in the Mourne Mountains, firefighters are now tackling blazes elsewhere in the Province.

Today the fire brigade said that wildfires in the Sandbank Road and Chimney Rock Mountain areas of the Mournes, plus one in the Cranny Road area in the Ring of Gullion, had been dealt with, though crews remained at the scene of a fire in the Dungiven area of Co Londonderry.

Now the fire brigade said it is attending another “large incident in Brookeborough, Co Fermanagh, along with several smaller incidents across the Province”.

It said the call about the Brookeborough incident came at 12.10pm today.

Fire crews from as far away as Strabane, Lurgan, and Banbridge were among those in attendance and the fire brigade said: “Crews are currently working hard to bring the incident under control.

"Local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area to support firefighting operations.

"[We] request the public act responsibly if you are in the countryside this weekend.

"If you see a fire, call 999 immediately.”
