Funeral for Families of the Disappeared founder

The funeral took place on Saturday for Margaret McKinney, one of the founders of the victims' group Families of the Disappeared.

Requiem Mass for the 85-year-old took place at St Matthias’ Church in west Belfast with burial at Milltown Cemetery.

Mrs McKinney’s son Brian was abducted by the IRA, murdered and secretly buried in 1978.

She spoke out against the IRA showing no concern for her personal safety, and vowed never to give up until he was returned to her.

She took her case to the then prime minister John Major and in 1998 as part of a WAVE delegation she met US President Bill Clinton.

The body of Brian McKinney, along with that of John McCrory who was abducted with him, was recovered at Colgagh, Inniskeen, Co Monaghan on June 30 1999.
