Little Ruby Carson gets royal thank-you

When little Ruby Carson posted a handmade card to Her Majesty the Queen for her 90th birthday, the seven-year-old schoolgirl wasn't expecting to get anything in return.

However, the Killinchy Primary School pupil was in for a delightful surprise when she went back to school after the summer holidays.

A letter from Her Majesty, complete with a portrait of the Queen, was waiting for little Ruby at the County Down primary school.

Ruby’s Mum, Stephanie, said: “Ruby just loves the Queen. The classroom assistant that works with her at the school, Miss McVeigh, said to her ‘why don’t you make her a card’ because she is quite good at art.

“She made her a card and she made her a bracelet. The school helped send it off to her. It was sent off but I don’t think anyone was really expecting a response, but when she got back from the summer holidays, there was a response there.

“It was typed on Buckingham Palace headed paper. There was a nice picture of the Queen with it. She was absolutely delighted. She couldn’t believe it because she loves the Queen and she had been so excited about making the card. We just can’t believe it.” Stephanie explained that it had been an eventful summer in the Carson household, with the arrival of Ruby’s youngest sibling Harry at the end of June and when the seven-year-old found out the Queen had sent a thank you card, it only added to the excitement to learn that the Queen had sent her a thank-you card.

“Ruby was so pleased that she had commented on her great art and craft work in the letter. This was a great boost for Ruby, her classroom assistant and Killinchy Primary.”
