'A good father and a good husband': Local councillors pay tribute to motorcyclist tragically killed in Co Antrim

A motorcyclist who was killed in Co Antrim earlier this week has been described as “a good father and husband” by a local councillor from the area.

Jim Wylie, who was 60-years-old and from the local area, tragically passed away following a collision involving a car and a motorbike in the Crankill Road area of Ballymena at the junction of Tullygrawley Road on Monday morning.

Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit said emergency services attended but “sadly the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene”.

A funeral service for Mr Wylie will take place at Clough Presbyterian Church at 1pm on Friday.

DUP Alderman Reuben Glover said the community was in shock by the tragedy.

He said: "I have read all the tributes to Jim and I’m totally behind them. He was a good father, a good husband and he and his wife Andrea are just two brilliant folk...that’s the only way I can describe them.

"It was a big, big shock when the news filtered through. There was a council meeting this week and Jim’s passing is all that was talked about.

"Jim was a very well thought of person, he wasn’t boastful at all and was quiet.

"It is just heartbreaking for the whole family and I pass on my condolences to them all at this difficult time.”

Braid TUV Councillor Chrissy Jamieson added: “I know members of Jim’s family well.

“I was really shocked to hear of his tragic passing.

"Jim was well known and well liked in the local community and will have left a lasting impact on many people’s lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.
