If only a fool does not believe in global warming, then only a fool who does not believe in God’s global warning

The freak weather patterns the world has been witnessing of recent months with the devastating effects of floods, fires and destruction they invariably have brought are caused (if we are to believe the experts) by global warming.

Global warming in turn is caused (if we are again to believe those in the scientific know) by the geological phenomena of greenhouse gases, carbon emissions, thinning of the ozone layer, rise in temperature of the earth’s atmosphere.

Finally, the geological phenomena in turn is caused (as we continue to rely on the analysts) on the modern man, it is man and how he lives at fault, from the planes we fly to the deodorant we spray, from how we power our cities to how we heat our homes.

I do not dismiss this chain of cause/effect which sounds plausible enough to an unscientific mind like mine.

The only problem I have with it is that the chain stops one cause/effect link too early. It is not that the scientific experts with all their knowledge and geological analysts with all their data have become too smart for their or anyone else’s good but rather they have become too blind to be of any real use.

They are blinded by second causes, too busy looking at the trees (literally) that they have missed the wood. Or should I say, have missed the God who made the wood, who made the world in fact and who continues to exercise His absolute Lordship over the sun, moon, stars, ozone, seasons, thunder, lightening, wind, rain, vapours, seas and rivers and all the varied effects they have.

So that, if the planet really is experiencing a time of unprecedented flooding, fires and destruction, without denying the human element which may be responsible for it in a secondary causal sense, the LORD is the first and ultimate Cause behind it all.

This throws up many questions that a letter in a newspaper could never begin to address but the single most important question it has to raise is “Why”?

The biblical answer is divine judgement on the nations for our forsaking of the Creator God.

If it is reckoned that only a fool today does not believe in global warming, well then it is only a fool who does not believe in global warning!
