Letter: Donald Trump delighted united Irelanders with his brash talk but it was refreshing to see UK leaders united in their condemnation
A letter from David McNarry:
President Trump knew exactly what he was doing in telling the taoiseach he would “love to see” a “unified" Ireland.

He was taking the headlines away from the fervent Irish support for the Palestinians.
Sitting beside Micheal Martin, Trump was regaling the taoiseach with, "we're talking about it and you got the right man here to get it moving".
It was brash and beyond loose talk!
Of course, the Irish political elite are cock-a-hoop and delighted with the president’s interference in exclusively sovereign UK constitutional affairs.
Be in no doubt that the united Irelanders will use Trump’s rubber stamp approval of Irish unity as justification for weaponising a border poll campaign.
Trump the bully does not apologise. Nor will he listen to the majority in NI-UK who are firm that they neither want a border poll or a campaign for a referendum on unification.
How refreshing it is to see British Labour, Conservative and Reform political leaders united in their condemnation of Trump's attack on Northern Ireland's sovereignty.
Particularly when, to cap it all, Trump said, “I have friends on both sides.”
Well, he should be told that no matter how many he thinks are his friends in NI-UK, and I suspect not many, he has lost any friendship with one million unionists who will never forget his blatant ditching of the Union.
