Letter: The vast extra cost of running our divided society is over a billion pounds a year
A letter from Margaret Marshall:
Almost daily, we hear from government departments that there is no money available for spending on essential programmes.

Yet is reckoned that the extra costs of running our divided society is over a billion pounds a year.
There are often two small separate schools in a small rural area, whereas one larger integrated school could provide more facilities and allow children from different religious or racial backgrounds to work and play together.
Different housing areas and different community provision all contribute to prolonging the distrust towards people from the “other side”.
Our government has a duty to promote a shared society. Let’s see some concerted action to achieve this.
